Personalised nutrition and functional medicine support for cyclical changes in mood, health and wellbeing.

Feeling different in the days or weeks before your period can be easy to dismiss as “just hormones”. But for some women, the changes in mood and physical symptoms can have a significant impact on everyday life, relationships, work and how they feel about themselves.

You might notice anxiety, irritability or low mood at a particular point in your cycle, alongside changes in sleep, energy, appetite, digestion or physical symptoms.

We help you understand your whole health picture, looking at your symptoms in the context of your menstrual cycle, nutrition, lifestyle and wider health.

What can PMS, PMT or PMDD feel like?

Premenstrual symptoms vary considerably from one woman to another. For some, they're relatively mild. For others, changes in mood and physical symptoms can become much more difficult to manage and may interfere with everyday life.

You might experience:

  • Irritability, anger or feeling more emotionally reactive

  • Anxiety or feeling unusually on edge

  • Low mood or tearfulness

  • Feeling overwhelmed

  • Difficulty concentrating or brain fog

  • Changes in sleep

  • Fatigue or low energy

  • Food cravings or changes in appetite

  • Bloating or changes in digestion

  • Breast tenderness

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Fluid retention

  • Changes in libido

  • Joint or muscle discomfort

With PMDD, mood and emotional symptoms can be particularly severe and can significantly affect everyday functioning and quality of life.

If you suspect PMDD, it's important to discuss your symptoms with your GP or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Why might I be feeling this way?

It's not simply about having “too much” or “too little” of a hormone.

PMS and PMDD are associated with the hormonal changes that occur across the menstrual cycle, but the way individual women respond to those changes can vary considerably.

When we work with women experiencing cyclical symptoms, some of the areas we may consider include:

YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE

Understanding when symptoms occur and how they change across your cycle is an important starting point. Keeping track of symptoms over several cycles can help identify patterns that might otherwise be difficult to see.

NUTRITION & BLOOD SUGAR

Regular meals, overall diet and whether you're getting the nutrients you need can be relevant to energy, appetite, concentration and how you feel throughout the month.

STRESS & SLEEP

Stress and poor sleep can affect how you feel physically and emotionally and may make an already difficult part of your cycle harder to manage.

GUT HEALTH

Where digestive symptoms are also present, we'll consider your gut health alongside your menstrual symptoms, nutrition and wider health history.

YOUR WIDER HORMONAL HEALTH

Thyroid health, perimenopause and other hormonal or reproductive health concerns may sometimes need to be considered as part of the wider picture.

MOOD & MENTAL HEALTH

Anxiety, depression and other mental health difficulties can sometimes worsen premenstrually. Understanding whether symptoms are present throughout the month or predominantly linked to a particular part of your cycle can be important.

Our role isn't to assume which of these applies to you. It's to understand your individual health picture and work out where it makes sense to focus.

How we can support you

Understand your whole health picture

Your first session gives us time to explore your symptoms and menstrual cycle alongside your health history, nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress, mood and any medication or hormonal contraception you may be using.

Create a personalised plan

We'll bring that information together into clear, practical recommendations. Depending on your individual needs, this may include nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and functional testing where appropriate.

Work together over time

Most clients work with us over three months, giving us time to review how you're getting on, discuss what's changing and adapt your recommendations as we learn more about you. Longer-term support is available where needed.
