Personalised nutrition and functional medicine support for low mood and depression, with a particular understanding of the changes that can happen during midlife.
Low mood can affect far more than how you feel emotionally. It can change your energy, motivation, sleep, appetite, concentration and ability to engage with everyday life.
For some women, depression has been part of life for many years. For others, changes in mood appear for the first time during midlife, sometimes alongside hormonal changes, stress, poor sleep or other changes in health.
We help you understand your whole health picture, looking at the different factors that may be influencing how you feel.
What can depression and low mood feel like?
Depression doesn't always look like feeling sad. You might feel flat, disconnected, exhausted or simply notice that things you would normally enjoy don't feel the same anymore.
You might experience:
-
Persistent low mood or sadness
-
Loss of interest or enjoyment in things
-
Low motivation
-
Fatigue or feeling physically depleted
-
Sleeping too much or struggling to sleep
-
Changes in appetite
-
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
-
Brain fog or forgetfulness
-
Feeling irritable or more emotionally sensitive
-
Anxiety alongside low mood
-
Withdrawing from friends, family or social situations
-
Feelings of guilt, hopelessness or low self-worth
-
Physical aches, pains or tension
You don't need to experience all of these symptoms, and depression can feel very different from one person to another.

Why might I be feeling this way?
Low mood doesn't exist in isolation.
There isn't one explanation for depression or persistent low mood. Your emotional health, physical health, life experiences and current circumstances can all be part of the picture.
When we work with someone experiencing low mood or depression, some of the areas we may consider include:
HORMONES & MIDLIFE
Perimenopause and menopause can coincide with changes in mood, anxiety, sleep and energy. Thyroid health and other hormonal factors may also be relevant for some people.
NUTRITION & NUTRIENT STATUS
What and how regularly you eat, the overall quality and variety of your diet, and whether you're getting the nutrients you need can all be relevant to your wider health and wellbeing.
GUT HEALTH
Your gut and brain communicate with one another through the gut–brain axis, which is one reason we consider digestive health alongside mood and mental health where it's relevant.
SLEEP
Poor sleep can affect mood, energy and emotional regulation, while depression itself can make it harder to sleep well.
STRESS & YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
Long periods of stress, overwhelm or exhaustion can affect both physical and emotional wellbeing and may be part of your individual picture.
YOUR HISTORY & CIRCUMSTANCES
Past experiences, trauma, relationships, loneliness, work, caring responsibilities and significant life changes can all influence mental health and shouldn't be reduced to a purely physical explanation.
MEDICATION & YOUR WIDER HEALTH
Existing health conditions and medication may also need to be considered as part of your health picture. If you're taking antidepressants, we work alongside your prescriber rather than making changes to your medication ourselves.
Our role isn't to assume which of these applies to you. It's to understand your individual health picture and work out where it makes sense to focus.

Are you taking antidepressants?
Thinking about reducing or coming off antidepressants?
If you're taking antidepressants and considering reducing or stopping your medication, our Beyond the Low Mood programme provides more specialist support.
Beyond the Low Mood is a six-month programme designed to help you understand your wider health picture and support your nutrition, physical health and emotional wellbeing alongside a medically supervised antidepressant taper.
We don't advise you to stop antidepressants or make changes to your medication. Any tapering decisions remain between you and your GP, psychiatrist or prescriber, and we work alongside that medical care.
How we can support you
Understand your whole health picture
Your first session gives us time to explore how you've been feeling alongside your health history, nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress, hormones, medication and other factors that may be relevant.
Create a personalised plan
We'll bring that information together into clear, practical recommendations. Depending on your individual needs, this may include nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and functional testing where appropriate.
Work together over time
Most clients work with us over three months, giving us time to review how you're getting on, discuss what's changing and adapt your recommendations as we learn more about you. Longer-term support is available where needed.
