Personalised nutrition and functional medicine support for your mood, health and wellbeing through perimenopause, menopause and beyond

Midlife can bring changes that aren't always immediately connected with hormones. You might notice that your mood feels different, anxiety appears for the first time, sleep becomes more difficult, or your energy, concentration, digestion or appetite begin to change.

For some women these changes are relatively manageable. For others, several things seem to happen at once, making it difficult to know what's hormonal, what isn't, and where to start.

We help you understand your whole health picture, looking at the different factors that may be influencing how you feel during this stage of life.

What can perimenopause and menopause feel like?

Perimenopause and menopause can affect women very differently. Changes can begin gradually, sometimes years before periods stop, and symptoms may involve your physical health, mood, sleep and overall wellbeing.

You might experience:

  • Changes in your menstrual cycle

  • Hot flushes or night sweats

  • New or increased anxiety

  • Low mood or changes in motivation

  • Irritability or feeling more emotionally sensitive

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep

  • Waking during the night

  • Fatigue or lower energy

  • Brain fog, forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Changes in digestion

  • Changes in appetite, weight or body composition

  • Joint or muscle aches

  • Reduced libido or vaginal dryness

  • Heart palpitations

You don't need to experience all of these symptoms, and your experience can change as you move through perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause.

Why might I be feeling this way?

Hormones are part of the picture, but they aen't always the whole picture.

The hormonal changes associated with perimenopause and menopause can influence many aspects of physical and emotional health. But midlife is also a time when sleep, stress, nutrition, metabolic health and existing health conditions can become increasingly relevant.

When we work with women during and after the menopause transition, some of the areas we may consider include:

HORMONAL CHANGES

Fluctuating and declining oestrogen and progesterone are a normal part of the menopause transition and can coincide with changes in mood, sleep, temperature regulation and other symptoms.

MOOD & MENTAL HEALTH

Some women notice anxiety, low mood, irritability or changes in emotional wellbeing during midlife. We look at these symptoms in the context of your wider health and circumstances rather than assuming they're simply hormonal.

SLEEP & STRESS

Night sweats, anxiety and changing sleep patterns can all disrupt sleep, while ongoing stress and poor sleep can make it more difficult to cope with other symptoms.

NUTRITION & BLOOD SUGAR

Your nutritional needs, eating patterns and metabolic health can all be relevant to energy, concentration, appetite and longer-term health during and after menopause.

GUT HEALTH

Digestive symptoms can change during midlife too. Where relevant, we'll consider your gut health alongside your nutrition, symptoms and wider medical history.

YOUR WIDER HEALTH

Thyroid health, nutrient status, medication, cardiovascular health, bone health and other medical conditions may also form part of your individual health picture.

Our role isn't to assume which of these applies to you. It's to understand your individual health picture and work out where it makes sense to focus.

How we can support you

Understand your whole health picture

Your first session gives us time to explore your symptoms, health history, nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress, mood and where you are in the menopause transition, alongside any medication or HRT you may be using.

Create a personalised plan

We'll bring that information together into clear, practical recommendations. Depending on your individual needs, this may include nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and functional testing where appropriate.

Work together over time

Most clients work with us over three months, giving us time to review how you're getting on, discuss what's changing and adapt your recommendations as we learn more about you. Longer-term support is available where needed.

A note about HRT

Nutrition and functional medicine don't have to be an alternative to HRT. We work with women who use HRT, women who don't, and women who are exploring whether it may be right for them.

We don't prescribe HRT, but we're happy to work alongside your existing GP or menopause/HRT prescriber as part of your wider care. If you'd like to explore HRT but don't currently have a prescriber, we can also signpost you to an appropriate healthcare professional.

Our focus is on understanding and supporting your wider health alongside any medical care you're receiving.
