Depression & Antidepressant Support

Feeling low, flat or disconnected can be exhausting—especially if you’ve been living with depression for years or relying on antidepressants to get through the day. This 1:1 nutrition and functional medicine programme is designed for midlife women who want deeper support with depression, low mood and antidepressant use, whether or not they decide to stay on medication.

Personalised Support for Low Mood & Depression in Midlife

Nicola (Urban Wellness) Branding Shoot-39.jpg

Depression in midlife is rarely caused by one single thing. Hormonal changes in menopause, chronic stress, past trauma, nutrient depletion, sleep disruption, gut health and blood sugar imbalances can all play a role in how you feel. Many women describe feeling emotionally “numb”, stuck on medication, or unsure what else they can do.

This package offers a safe, structured space to explore the possible root causes of your depression and build a more resilient foundation for your mental health.

It may be right for you if you:

  • Experience ongoing low mood or emotional “blunting”

  • Have been on antidepressants long term and want to support your brain and body more fully

  • Are considering a future medication review with your GP or psychiatrist and want to feel stronger first

  • Have a history of depression, anxiety, trauma, burnout or hormonal change and want a more holistic, root‑cause approach

All decisions around starting, changing or tapering medication are always made with your prescriber. This programme focuses on strengthening the foundations of your mental health using nutrition, lifestyle and functional medicine.

If you are tired of feeling like you are just coping day-to-day, or relying on your medication to support you, then get in touch today to find out how we can change that!

About Nicola

Supporting women with depression and antidepressant use in midlife is not just my work—it is a personal passion. My own mental health journey showed me how often women are told to simply “cope” or “learn to live with it”. I believe midlife depression and long‑term medication use deserve more than crisis management and quick fixes.

Drawing on over 16 years of clinical experience in nutritional therapy, functional medicine and mindset work, I work with you to understand your story in depth and explore what might be possible for your mood, energy and quality of life. You are not “unfixable”, and this is not the end of your story; together, we look for the foundations that can help you feel more like yourself again.

“Patients no longer need to suffer from the limitations and inadequacies of traditional one-size-fits-all approaches… Lasting recovery from antidepressant withdrawal is possible.”
– James Greenblatt, MD

How we work together

At the heart of this package is a functional medicine approach to depression and antidepressant support—looking at your whole story, not just your diagnosis. Together, we explore:

  • Your history with depression, stress, anxiety and trauma

  • Possible root causes or drivers for your low mood

  • Hormones, thyroid, genetics, gut health and blood sugar balance

  • Energy levels, nutrient status (B vitamins, omega‑3, vitamin D, magnesium and more) that may affect mood and withdrawal symptoms

  • Sleep, movement, daily rhythm and nervous system regulation

From there, we create a realistic, step‑by‑step plan to support your mood, nervous system and wider physical health.

It's time to transform your mental wellbeing.

Book a free 30-minute discovery call so we can better understand your needs – and you can decide if we are the right fit for you.

01

In-depth Assessment

During our first session, we take time to understand your unique health history story, current symptoms and overall wellbeing. We’ll explore key systems that need support and help identify possible root causes for your mental health challenges.  At the end, you’ll have your first personalised action steps to start making meaningful progress.

02

Personalised programme

Within 48-hours of each session, you’ll receive a personalised plan with clear, achievable steps – covering nutrition, lifestyle, supplement advice (if required) and optional functional testing.  We make changes gradually so you’ll never feel overwhelmed, and you can start taking positive action straight away.

03

Accountability and on-going support

You’re never alone in your journey.  In-between sessions, you can message us with questions or updates – so you feel supported, accountable and confident to make lasting change.

04

Follow-up sessions

We’ll meet regularly to review your progress, update your plan, and celebrate every step forward.  Health is a journey – and sometimes, as we peel back the layers, new things can emerge that we can address together.  You plan will always adapt as your needs change, ensuring you feel supported with every layer.  you’re taking towards better mental health.

05

Functional testing

Functional testing can be a valuable tool in your health journey, helping us explore underlying factors that may impact your mental wellbeing. We’ll always begin with a thorough assessment before recommending any tests, so you never spend money unnecessarily.  Functional testing is optional, and you’ll have the choice to proceed only if, and when, it’s genuinely relevant to your programme.

06

Supplements

Supplements can play an important role, especially at the beginning of your journey, by helping to target nutritional gaps and support your progress.  Any recommendations will be tailored for you – based on your needs and goals, not a generic protocol.  For added value, we offer a 10% discount on all supplements we recommend as part of your plan.

07

Letters or reports for your medical team

To support joined‑up, collaborative care and informed decision‑making, I will write to your GP, psychiatrist or other members of your medical team as and when required so that we are all the asme page, and have your best interests front and centre.

08

Ready to transform your mental health?

Important note on medication

This programme does not replace medical care, and Urban Wellness does not prescribe, start, stop or change your antidepressant medication.

Any decisions about tapering or adjusting medication are made between you and your prescribing doctor or psychiatrist, ideally with a gradual, collaborative plan in place.

With your consent, Nicola can write to your prescriber and share relevant information so you are all working together as a team. The focus of this programme is to support your body and mind through nutrition, lifestyle and functional medicine, so that—whatever you decide—you feel more resourced, informed and resilient.

"Nicola knows her stuff, and she knows yours too. Only you don't know it, yet. Make an appointment. Because can't keep it to herself, can she?"

Fiona, East London
